The sky ison fire,
the flame
tree blooms.

These flowers were battered by the heavy rains and strong winds brought by Typhoon Ambo yesterday. Though tiny, delicate, and fragile, they fought and withstood the storm.
I think their strength is their beauty.

During the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) of Quezon City, Philippines because of the pandemic caused by the COVID19, I stand holding branches and leaves of trees and large plants and cover my face as an art performance. This gesture is a personal attempt to be closer to nature in order to know to speak to the trees. This is perhaps a personal atonement or at-one-ment with nature. This desire to talk to trees is informed by the prose "Trees as Sanctuaries" by the German poet Hermann Hesse.
This performance is documented through photographs posted online via the Facebook page as a profile picture.
#IamTREE is part of the London Biennale 2020: Masks, Mirages, and the Morphic Mirror curated by Adam Nankervis and David Medalla. According to the curatorial brief, the works in this biennale are "odes to a political or the current health pandemic, a pre-existing ID of identity, or desire of self-change, internally or an altered guise, an individuals choice to create non-identity or amplified identity, or joyous or apocalyptic manifests will be video beamed on sites worldwide with accompanying texts, and if physical manifests can be sent, the masks will find a home in different locations of the world, within the walls of galleries, or spaces yet determined with accompanying texts." Being part of the biennale, this performance of covering my face with tree branches or leaves of large plants is a kind of mask that does not only cover the exterior but uncovers the interior.
